If you are good at communication and creative, you can try writing greetings for the likes of Hallmark or Archies
One idea I had was to buy things from people off of Craigslist. Things of little local value but when sold on eBay turn out to be popular in Japan or somewhere like that. It takes work but can be profitable if you find your niche. Think about what you know best and ask yourself if there are any valuable items in your area going for cheap.
I build picnic tables and sell them at home. It gives me the time to do the maintenance of our home, and I don't have to pay for day care, so I can be a stay at home mom...
Put up flyers in your neighborhood and tell people that you can help them with any computer related tasks. That way you will have variety of projects to work on and your job will never be ordinary. There are so many people out there that are not good with computers, are not speedy typers and there are also some people out there that have dyslexia, and difficulty talking or hearing. There is a lot of people that would be happy to hire your help. You can also transcribe lectures for other people.
Do you have lots of stuffs around the house? Maybe you should allow people to rent your stuffs. You can put up books, videos, furnitures, appliances, just about anything for rent.
Another great home based business idea is to hire yourself out as a cook. Next time when there is a party in your neighborhood, tell people that you would be happy to do the cooking, wait tables, clean up. You can also offer to pick up elderly, kids, etc and bring them to the party.
If your good with technical issues, maybe a web master. Tutoring is another option.
There have been several ideas that I tried, but they didn't really work. What worked for me is walking dogs. I put fliers up across the neighborhood and tried to drum up business and now I walk 30 dogs per week adn make great side money.
I tutor out of my house as well as provide child care.
Doesn't everyone need to be more organized? Well, I am super organized and people always want me to help them straighten out their houses for them. If you are too, or just know how to do it, you can help get people's houses in tip-top shape, and get paid for doing so!
If you have sewing skills and equipment this can be an excellent business. MAny dry cleaners who offer on site alterations farm their work out to home seamstresses. You can also build a personal clientele up over time. If you are skilled enough to go beyond the basics you can make costumes, prom and special occasion dresses.
As a home based business I have provided Child Care. This included both day and overnight care with a premium for overnights.
I saw something recently that peeked my interest..craft parties from Crayola. They supply the craft projects and you book the parties. If you love crafts and doing things with other people this would be great I think, and they have something nice they created when they are finished...it's win-win.

If You have bartending experience you could easily make extra money on the weekends as a Bartender for hire at parties, weddings, etc. All you have to do is hand out business cards and post an ad on the free website Carigslist to get started.
A great idea for a home business would be manufacturing products for people who are starting home businesses. A person who already started a home business by selling a product and does not have the finances to hire a large firm to make their products can invest a lower cost to at home manufacturers.

If you have the skills, you could build websites for people. You can do this kind of work with some cheap software and some basic coding knowledge, and you can get paid handsome sums of money for it.
I think you could start a video blog on Metacafe.
If you enroll in the Producer's Awards program, you could earn $100 for every 20,000 view of your videos.
KipKay, the highest owner, has earned more than $100,000 in 2 years through this.
Its a very good and popular video site.
Have fun! =)
I sometimes make flash games sponsored through Google Ads to make a little extra money. My games haven't really made much at all, but they are simple, traditional games (think tic tac toe). If you make some more intricate/specialized games you can do well.
Selling items on eBay can be really good. I tried dealing with electronics and I made an OK amount of money.
Have you ever looked at the stock market sheets? You may want to get involved in for example technology for 4 months, home and design for 4 months, recreation for 4 months. Make sure the stock scores are in your favor before getting into these activities

A great way to make money from home is to sign up to be part of a virtual call center - rather than meeting in a "boiler room" type atmosphere you can answer calls for another company at home. You can write off your home office on your taxes if you use it for business related purposes. This would be a great way for stay-at-home-moms to make money too.
Go to garage sales, estate sales, and find signed copies, new copies, first editions and sell them on half.com. The real money is in college text books - if you can find a source of cheap text books you can profit a great deal!
Online tarot readings are a great way to earn money from home and help others with their problems. I've worked as an online tarot reader for many months now and continue to make money at it. Some people are too timid to go to a business to have their tarot read, they may feel embarrassed or intimidated, but the internet gives them the ability to chat with a reader from the privacy and comfort of their own home.
Check the Four Hour Week book from Tim Ferris, it motivates and gives many practical ideas (I don't get any commission!)
in my opinion you need to dedicated a section of your house, one room for example, and have all your business operations in that room, this is important because it lets you get away from work when you are not actually working, but also keeps the convince of working from home. ie, keep that room like its a sepprate house, dont share phones etc with you private life
You basically will just need a computer, fax machine and telephone number to set up your own consultation firm at your home. This is an easy way to take the skills you have and put them to use in helping others manage or create their own business.
Freelance designer for the arts and crafts industry. Meaning, create craft designs for publications and manufacturers.
Buy bulk stock from a supplier (use Google or some other search engine to find a wholesale supplier of your chosen product) and sell them on eBay for a profit!
