It cost me less than $1000 to start my own photography business. I purchased a Nikon digital SLR and began gathering clients via my website.

It costs me about $1,100 dollars to start teaching CPR. (manikins, lungs, barrier devices, videos, etc.) I started out teaching friends for what it cost me so I could practice and I borrowed equipment from a friend who also teaches as I slowly made money to buy more equipment. I finally gathered enoguh money to do a mailing and I was finally on my way. I made back all my investment in the first year and three years later I am still doing great!

The only thing that cost me was opening a business checking account for my writing business online. I deposited $100 as startup costs, and bought checks for $12.

The cheapest way to go starting out is drop shipping. Some companies charge for drop shipping but it will save you the cost and space for inventory. Needless to say, if it is not a internet/Mail order business you will need stock to sell. :)

I was attending school and good grades are the goal in school anway. The Library will place you on their tutor list if you attained an A in the class for which you want to turor. As far as expences there aren't any unless you want them.

The clippers, dryer and scissors were the largest of my expense, then the training. I work from home, still in operation, still only part time after 8 years. I am ready to give up, I cant support myself on the few straggler customers I have each month. I am good at what I do, my customers give me referrals but the business still doesnt come...

I agree, it's all relative. Mine cost less than a hundred dollars as a virtual assistant, just a few additions to the home office we already had.

I guess I would urge caution about getting involved with any home business that requires money to be involved with. I would check its website first and then locate information about it on the internet. Like they once said,on a TV show, "let's be careful out there."

I'm sure keeping track of all the costs over the years can be much higher than you ever expect.

I do a home-based astrology service over the internet, and it only cost me about $20 for the tarot supplies. Plus the cost of internet, which I get anyways.

For my handmade soap business. The supplies to make the soap dont cost all that much, the bulk of it was the initial expenses for all of the different molds, crock pot to melt the base in, cost of setting up the website, etc.

One of my home based businesses is real estate investing. Over the last 6 years, it has cost me over $150,000 to get it started, and still it is not turning a profit.

I buy rental property, then when the tenants move out I fix up the property with high end interiors.

The only cost I had was my computer and printer/fax machine...about $1000.
